The New York Trans Oral History Project

In 2015, I learned of the New York Trans Oral History Project, a unique collection of oral histories of transgender and gender nonconforming New Yorkers. Unlike other oral history projects, whose archives are often difficult to access, the New York Trans Oral History Project is housed under the New York Public Library and available via Creative Commons.

I have had the honour of interviewing nearly 20 people so far for this project; it has radically changed my understanding of survival, community, and the impact of AIDS on a gentrifying city.
